About Me

Food is one of my many joys in life. It is a common bond I share among my friends and family. Combining food and travel makes it all the more interesting. I enjoy going out for a good meal with friends and family. The array of various cuisines and our fantastic array of produce really makes Sydney such a great city to live in. Blogging is my hobby and my posts on restaurant meals I have had are paid for and not gratis. Any gratis provided to me will always be stated beforehand.

Garfish Kirribilli

What a Saturday! :-( it was wet, grey and rather chilly for the tail end of summer. But we still trekked to Milsons Point for our lunch date at Garfish.

Garfish has 3 restaurants in Sydney; Manly, Crows Nest and Kirribilli. For this special lunch, I chose the Kirribilli venue. It is located very near to the Milsons Point station, and there were some nice little boutiques to browse in.

The lunch was to celebrate MO's 40th and I really wanted it to be a nice, relaxing and enjoyable meal. I didn't realise that seafood is MO's favourite type of meal so I was lucky with my restaurant selection.

We decided to go all out,  i.e. have a 3 course meal. For entree, MO had the salt and pepper squid with chilli, garlic, coriander and lime. I had the seared scallops with sweet corn purée and Granny Smith apple.

Verdict: smash hits! MO said she really enjoyed her dish and I loved mine! Just looking at the photo makes me want to have it again. I was intrigued by the addition of the sweet corn and the slightly tangy green apple. But it worked, the flavours were delicious and the crunchiness of the apple added to the texture. The scallops were perfectly cooked.

For mains, we chose the same dish. How could you turn down Fish and Chips? I must say the servings were rather generous. I did enjoy my dish but at the back of my mind I couldn't help but compare the tartare sauce to the one I recently had at Wanaka (Cardrona and Wanaka). I must say it wasn't as good as the one I had at The Landing.

For desserts, MO had the Chocolate, hazelnut and cranberry brownie with honeycomb and vanilla ice cream.

I had the honey pannacotta with balsamic roasted figs.

Verdict: what do you think? I have yet to be disappointed with desserts! MO looked like she was in 'heaven' as she savoured her brownie. I had a taste of it and I will concur with her, it was delicious!!! The brownie was nicely warm and it had a luscious melt in your mouth texture.

I enjoyed my more subdued pannacotta. After feeling rather full from my entree and main, this dessert was perfectly light and refreshing for me.

Happy 40th MO! We had a good lunch, didn't we? Here's to your forthcoming year! Cheers!
