About Me

Food is one of my many joys in life. It is a common bond I share among my friends and family. Combining food and travel makes it all the more interesting. I enjoy going out for a good meal with friends and family. The array of various cuisines and our fantastic array of produce really makes Sydney such a great city to live in. Blogging is my hobby and my posts on restaurant meals I have had are paid for and not gratis. Any gratis provided to me will always be stated beforehand.

Hutong Dumpling (Melbourne CBD)

I have visited Melbourne so many times over the past few years and this is one dumpling place I have yet to try. Believe me it was not for lack of trying.

I have tried a couple of times when in Melbourne to get a table and every time I get told it would take 1/2 hour up to an hour. Well, I wasn't going to wait that long especially since I was starving! This time we only needed to wait for less than 10 minutes and we took it! The only condition was we had to vacate the table by 8.30. No problemo! :)

After a day of travelling to Melbourne and a rather full work day, we were quite exhausted so we decided to choose light dishes, rather than full on mains.

Xiao Long Bao - their famous dumplings did not disappoint. Lovely thin skins which was quite translucent. Perfect with the black vinegar and thinly sliced ginger.

Mushroom Prawn Dumplings with Diced Water Chestnut - another lovely and quite flavourful set of dumplings. They didn't look too flash in the photo but were definitely tasty.

Duck Meat Dumplings - we thought we should try something different. I don't recall having duck dumplings before. It wasn't too bad but of the 3 dumplings this was my least favourite.

Spring Onion Pancake - the look of the pancake surprised us. We expected a round and flat type of pancake. Instead it came out looking sausage-like. To put it mildly we didn't like it, I found it doughy and did wish I had ordered another type of dumpling instead.

But not long after my meal, I found out from MR O through Instagram that I should have tried the Wontons with Hot Chilli Sauce. This was his favourite dish! Well, I am certainly trying it next time! :)

lol I would have been surprised by the presentation of the spring onion pancake too. Such a shame it was disappointing in taste too!

Hi Amy, thanks for visiting! Sorry to hear you were disappointed. I think it would depend on which dishes you ordered. As you can see from my experience there was one particular dish I should never have ordered. :)

I am not disgusted but I am dissatisfied with the service,,, Our food is served to long.. But I wanna give it a last try. Perhaps there is a valid reason.. If it failed the next time I will be disgusted and not reccommend

Hi John, fair enough. Give it another go. Perhaps the service might be better next time.
