About Me

Food is one of my many joys in life. It is a common bond I share among my friends and family. Combining food and travel makes it all the more interesting. I enjoy going out for a good meal with friends and family. The array of various cuisines and our fantastic array of produce really makes Sydney such a great city to live in. Blogging is my hobby and my posts on restaurant meals I have had are paid for and not gratis. Any gratis provided to me will always be stated beforehand.

Bowery Lane (Sydney CBD)

Bowery Lane opened not too long ago and conveniently for me, it is located a couple of blocks from my office. This lack of distance made it so easy for me to have a mid week dinner with my friends in celebration of one of their birthdays.

It is located in an office building and as we arrived just at 6.00 pm the main entrance to the restaurant was not open so we went up the stairs and entered via the side entrance. As a result of that, I got a glimpse of the kitchen.

As you can imagine, I would have pored over the online menu and as it was, there were so many dishes I wanted to try. Decisions, decisions!

We started by sharing a couple of snack size dishes.

Char grilled lamb ribs with chimichurri and rocket. The lamb was tender and went very well with the chimichurri.

Manchego croquettes with smoked chilli aioli. The croquettes were delicious, not overwhelmingly cheesy but made more interesting with the chilli kick from the aioli. A nice surprise!

We decided to share the 1 kg braised Wagyu short rib which was served with horse radish cream and roasted garlic. I don't think my picture does justice to how beautiful this meat was. It was literally 'fall of the bone' tender and packed with flavour. I didn't need any sauce or cream with the meat. DELICIOUS!

And to partner the short ribs, we ordered a side of Fries with chilli salt aioli. Need I state the obvious? It was so addictive and we were doling mouthfuls of the chips while enjoying the short ribs.

For dessert, we decided to share 2 desserts.

Ice cream sandwich which consisted of gingerbread, hot chocolate, poached pear, and candied pecans. I could certainty taste the gingerbread flavour and the pear was nicely poached. The dessert didn't blow me away but it was delicious enough.

Jar of Cookies and cream which had honeycomb, vanilla and dark chocolate. Now this dessert piqued my interest. Presented in a jar the dessert looked interesting. As I slowly dipped into the jar with the dessert spoon, I kept getting goodness of honeycomb, bits of cookies, chocolate and mixed berries. Yum, loved the different textures and the combination of flavours. Plus it was fun dipping into the jar to find out what delicious bits came out of it.

One funny incident that night was we couldn't exit the building. The side exit didn't work and neither did the automatic doors. There was a slight moment of panic before we resorted to entering the restaurant and asking for help. Imagine being stuck in the building for hours on end! Wouldn't that be a hoot?

A couple of days later I returned with a work mate for lunch. Please bear in mind I was advised to book and I managed to get the time of 1.30pm. Why so late? Well, the place was packed and full of Friday afternoon lunchers!!

I had the Tempura soft shell crab burger with Asian slaw and miso mayonnaise. The crab was overflowing the size of the buns! It looked not only huge but deliciously tempting! Great idea to have an Asian slaw because the slightly pickled taste of the crunchy slaw worked well with the crab and the miso mayonnaise had a slight spice which I enjoyed! I was very happy with this burger!

My friend had the New York Cheeseburger which had a wagyu beef pattie, bois bourdan, Monterey Jack, slices of tomato, caramelised onion and served with a side of fries! I was lucky enough to sample a small piece of the burger and it was delicious! The beef was juicy and the onions were nicely caramelised. I am going to have this on my next visit for lunch. :)

For drinks, I had the Hershey's Cookies and Cream milkshake which was true to the flavours and there was a nice surprise in my shake, a small chunk of Hershey's! And my friend had a rather good ale, the Liberty Ale. I sure liked the look of the label.

The two times I visited Bowery Lane it was busy as! This is a testament to their good food and friendly service. Before I forget, they open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 6 days a week! Go check it out! :)
